The Harmsco HUR-90-HP Hurricane filter housing delivers high-capacity filtration for commercial and industrial water treatment systems. Designed with patented up-flow cyclone technology, this single-cartridge housing helps improve dirt-holding capacity and extend filter cartridge life.

With a maximum flow rate of 100 GPM (70 GPM recommended), the HUR-90-HP supports efficient solids removal in demanding water treatment applications. Its electropolished 304 stainless steel construction provides durability and corrosion resistance for long-term operation.

The HUR-90-HP filter housing includes a heavy-duty CPVC standpipe as standard. An optional stainless steel standpipe supports high-temperature applications. The housing operates at pressures up to 150 PSI and temperatures up to 140°F (60°C) with the standard configuration. With the optional stainless steel standpipe, it can support temperatures up to 250°F (121°C).

Its compact footprint, 2″ NPT inlet and outlet connections, and 1″ NPT drain simplify installation in commercial and industrial systems. Typical uses include reverse osmosis pretreatment, process water filtration, municipal water systems, and other high-flow applications. In addition, NSF/ANSI Standard 61 listing supports use in applicable drinking water systems.

Description

Advanced Cyclonic Separation with the Harmsco HUR-90-HP Filter Housing

Standard sediment filters can clog quickly when heavy particles collect on the filter media. However, the Harmsco HUR-90-HP filter housing uses cyclone action to help manage sediment before it reaches the cartridge. This design combines sediment separation and cartridge filtration in one stainless steel housing.

How the Cyclonic Filtration Process Works

First, raw water enters the Hurricane filter housing through the 2″ NPT inlet. The tangential entry creates a spinning water flow inside the vessel.

As a result, heavier particles move toward the inside wall of the housing. These particles can include sand, silt, rust, and other suspended solids. The cyclone action helps separate heavier debris before it reaches the cartridge media. Therefore, the system can reduce direct sediment loading on the filter.

Next, the water moves upward through the filter housing. The flow pattern helps distribute particles across the pleated filter media. This design supports effective filtration and can help extend cartridge service life.

Finally, filtered water moves through the internal standpipe and exits the housing through the outlet connection.

Durable Stainless Steel Construction

The Harmsco HUR-90-HP filter housing features electropolished 304 stainless steel construction. This durable material provides strong corrosion resistance for demanding water treatment applications.

In addition, the housing uses a secure lid assembly with brass wing nuts and an EPDM seal. The unit supports working pressures up to 150 PSI. Therefore, it is suitable for many commercial and industrial water filtration systems.

Commercial and Industrial Water Treatment Applications

The HUR-90-HP supports a recommended flow rate of up to 70 GPM and a maximum flow rate of up to 100 GPM. As a result, it can handle a wide range of higher-flow filtration needs.

For example, operators can use the housing for reverse osmosis pretreatment, process water filtration, municipal water systems, and industrial water treatment. It can also support applications that require sediment removal before sensitive downstream equipment.

In addition, the compact design helps reduce the installation space required for a high-flow filtration system. Its 2″ NPT inlet and outlet connections also simplify integration into compatible piping systems.

Reliable Harmsco Cartridge Filtration

The Harmsco Hurricane filter housing combines durable construction with an efficient up-flow cyclone design. Therefore, it provides a practical solution for facilities that need dependable sediment control and high-flow water filtration.

Proper sediment removal can also help protect downstream pumps, valves, membranes, and other treatment equipment. As a result, the HUR-90-HP can serve as an effective pretreatment stage in larger water treatment systems.

Available through Water Treatment Supply, the Harmsco HUR-90-HP provides reliable filtration for demanding commercial and industrial applications. Use it as a high-flow sediment filter or as pretreatment before reverse osmosis and other water treatment equipment.

FAQs

FAQs

  1. How does the up-flow cyclone technology work inside the Harmsco HUR-90-HP filter housing?
Water enters the housing tangentially, creating a swirling vortex. Centrifugal force drives heavy solids outward and downward to the drain chamber, while cleaner fluid moves upward through the pleated filter media. This separation prevents air entrapment and reduces media loading.
  2. What is the difference between recommended flow rate and maximum flow rate for this Hurricane filter housing?
The recommended flow rate of 70 GPM yields optimal filtration efficiency, minimal initial differential pressure, and maximum dirt-holding capacity. The maximum flow rate of 100 GPM represents the absolute hydraulic capacity of the 2″ NPT vessel ports.
  3. Can I use this Harmsco Hurricane housing for high-temperature water applications?
The standard housing includes a CPVC internal standpipe rated up to 140°F (60°C). By upgrading to an optional stainless steel standpipe and installing high-temperature filter cartridges, the vessel rating increases up to 250°F (121°C).
  4. How much vertical overhead space is required to service the filter cartridge?
While the vessel height is 29-7/8 inches, a total vertical clearance (service height) of 51 inches is required to pull the long single-pleated Hurricane cartridge out of the housing during maintenance.
  5. Are Harmsco HUR-90-HP replacement housings certified for public drinking water use?
Yes. The HUR 90 HP housing is NSF/ANSI Standard 61 listed, confirming that its materials meet strict health and safety standards for potable water applications.
