Oil/Water Separation
Oily waste treatment typically uses gravity separation of non-emulsified "free oil", and chemical treatment and separation of emulsified oil by air flotation.
Several factors affect the performance of gravity separators:
- Flow rate through separator
- Turbulence or Short Circuiting
- Temperature
- pH
- Specific Gravity of the Oil
- Specific Gravity of the Wastewater
- Concentration of TSS
- Concentration of emulsifying agents
FAQ
Q. What types of clarifiers work best in oily wastes? A. This depends on the particular application, but oil will usually float. Therefore, it is quite common to see Dissolved Air Flotation clarifiers. There are many different options for DAF's that may work best in your application.
