FAQ Q. What is chelation? A. Chelation is a very strong bond between a metal and an ionic compound. Usually a chelate forms at least two bonds with one metal in a ring structure that is very stable—keeping the metal in solution. Some common chelating agents are the following:
• EDA – Ethylenediamine • NTA – Nitrilotetraacetic Acid • Citric Acid • Gluconic Acid • EDTA – Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid • DTPA – Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic Acid
Q. Will HMP’s help when metals are chelated? A. Yes, HMP’s can help you break chelant bonds and precipitate metals.
